Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, has cautioned members of the state executive council against disloyalty, internal rivalry and leaking of official government information.
In a statement on Thursday, Sunusi Bature, the governor’s
spokesperson, said the warning was issued during the 38th executive council
meeting, noting that such actions would no longer be tolerated.
The development comes after the sack of Abdullahi Musa, the
state’s head of service.
The governor replaced Musa with Bilkisu Maimota in an acting
capacity, urging her to promote discipline, unity and professionalism within
the civil service.
Bature also confirmed that five commissioners have resigned
from Yusuf’s cabinet since the governor’s defection to the All Progressives
Congress (APC) from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
At his formal welcome event into the APC, Yusuf said his
decision to join the ruling party was essential to positioning the state at the
heart of national decision-making and securing a better future for citizens.
He framed the move as one of responsibility rather than
personal ambition, saying it would enable active engagement with the Renewed
Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and unlock accelerated development through
stronger ties with the federal government.
Bature said the five commissioners declined to follow Yusuf
to the APC and subsequently stepped down.
“Five commissioners had resigned following the political
realignment. Four of them stepped down after declining to join the move to the
APC,” the statement added.
“The affected ministries include Humanitarian Affairs,
Youth, Internal Security and Special Duties.
Bature said the governor accepted their resignations and
wished the former officials success in their future endeavours.
“Governor Yusuf explained that recent political developments
informed his decision, alongside key stakeholders, to align with the APC in the
interest of the state’s development and stronger collaboration with the federal
government,” Bature stated.
The governor urged the remaining cabinet members to remain
united and committed to the administration’s goals for the progress of Kano.
