Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of positioning himself to succeed Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after the 2027 general elections.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, Adeyanju described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a mere "distraction" and claimed that many of its members are secretly working to support President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.
Adeyanju alleged that PDP politicians are focused on securing the strongest "bargaining chip" to negotiate with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) camp.
He specifically pointed to Makinde as seeking to replace Wike in the influential FCT ministerial role.Direct quote from Adeyanju: “PDP is a distraction; what is dead may never die again. I don’t want to bother myself about PDP now because everybody there is working for Tinubu.
"They are just looking for who will have the most bargaining chip. Seyi Makinde wants to replace Wike and maybe he will become the next FCT minister in 2027. So he is more or less how we will make Tinubu come back in 2027, I will not join them in their caricature; I don’t have their time.”
The allegation comes amid ongoing tensions within the PDP, including public disagreements between Makinde and Wike, the current FCT Minister.
Wike, a former Rivers State governor, has faced accusations from some PDP quarters of working against the party's interests in favor of President Tinubu, though he has denied such claims in the past.
Adeyanju's statement, made in a video posted recently, reflects broader speculation about post-2027 political realignments and potential defections or alliances ahead of the presidential race.
No immediate response has been reported from Governor Makinde, Minister Wike, or the PDP national leadership regarding Adeyanju's specific claims.
