2027: Gang That Made Buhari President Will Help ADC Oust Tinubu – Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has claimed that the same powerful political network that propelled Muhammadu Buhari to victory in 2015 is now ready to help the ADC remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking on Arise News Morning Show on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Momodu identified key members of this “gang” as former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal all now aligned with the ADC.

Momodu expressed his strong preference for Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate, urging the ADC not to “reinvent the wheel” but to study the strategies that brought Buhari to power.

“To win an election is not just about the crowd or the noise, not just the ideas or how brilliant you are,” he said. He revealed that he was actively involved in the 2015 Buhari campaign even though he was not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the time.

Momodu warned that Tinubu is a formidable opponent and that simply fielding a strong candidate or relying on public discontent will not be enough. He cited the 2024 U.S. election, where Democrats replaced Joe Biden with Kamala Harris, who raised huge funds but still lost to Donald Trump.

He pointed out that many who helped Tinubu become president were once part of Buhari’s network and are now angry and feeling abandoned.

“The people who worked for Tinubu to become President were partly in Buhari’s gang and today they are angry that they have been abandoned… El-Rufai is languishing somewhere in detention, Malami is running up and down, so that team is waiting for ADC to capture,” Momodu stated.

He stressed that the ADC should aggressively court this disaffected group, especially by fielding Atiku from the North-East, a region that has never produced a president to generate massive regional support.

“Let ADC go all out to capture… if you pick Atiku he comes from the North-East where APC has the vice president and the region will be very happy to have a President for the very first time,” he added.

Momodu’s comments come as opposition parties intensify efforts to build a formidable front against the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
