The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, unleashed strong curses on politicians he accused of supporting betrayal, warning that they would face divine retribution in the form of repeated betrayal and sudden death.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Rivers State chapter of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ office in Port Harcourt, Wike directed his fiery remarks at senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers, and governors whom he claimed were backing betrayers.
“Whether you are a senator, House of Reps member, minister or governor, and you support betrayals, people will continue to betray you in life. Betrayal is your portion,” Wike declared.
He escalated the warning, stating: “The day you will be betrayed, you will not have mouth to say anything. There you will collapse and go and they will announce that so so person has died.
”Wike emphasized a principle of karmic justice, adding: “That is the seed you have planted and whatever you plant, you will reap. Since you are planting betrayal, betrayal will follow you everywhere.”
Targeting governors in their second terms with ambitions to install successors, he said: “Every governor who is doing the second tenure, governor who has ambition to put a successor and is supporting betrayal, you will never survive it.”
The outburst comes amid Nigeria's volatile political landscape, particularly in Rivers State, where Wike, former governor and a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration has been embroiled in a prolonged rift with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Accusations of betrayal and political disloyalty have dominated the feud, with Wike's camp repeatedly labeling opponents as ungrateful or traitorous.
While the specific "betrayal" referenced in his speech was not detailed in the address, the context aligns with ongoing tensions in Rivers politics and broader national alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike's comments, delivered in his characteristic blunt style, have sparked reactions on social media, with supporters praising his forthrightness and critics questioning the tone of a high-ranking government official invoking curses on fellow politicians.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors group is associated with support for President Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope agenda.
The commissioning event provided a platform for Wike to rally loyalists while issuing stern warnings to perceived adversaries in the political space.
