The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, has appointed a 13-member caretaker committee to oversee the party's affairs in Plateau State.
The move is part of a broader reorganization of party structures in several states, aimed at strengthening the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A statement issued on Thursday, February 6, 2026, by Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the faction's National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), announced the appointment.
The committee is chaired by Dr. Gideon Nandem Tyem, with Goje A. Hirfo serving as Secretary. The caretaker committee has been tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of the PDP in Plateau State, stabilizing internal structures, and ensuring continuity during the transition period. The appointment is made under relevant provisions of the party constitution, which allow for such interim arrangements pending the election of a new executive committee.
The tenure of the caretaker committee is limited to 30 days or until a new state executive is constituted through proper congresses. The appointments take immediate effect.
This development follows earlier actions by the Wike-backed faction, including the dissolution of certain zonal committees (such as North-West, South-West, and Plateau zonal structures) and efforts to reorganize party leadership in key northern states like Kano, Yobe, and Zamfara, as part of preparations for upcoming political activities.
The PDP has been grappling with internal leadership disputes, with rival factions contesting control of party structures and convention plans. The Wike-aligned group has emphasized its commitment to rebuilding the party and holding inclusive processes moving forward.
