In a significant development amid ongoing military operations against insurgents in Nigeria's North-East, a 25-year-old woman identified as Kaltum Dalha, a member of Boko Haram and wife of a recently neutralized commander, has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai.
The surrender took place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. at a Forward Operating Base in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Kaltum arrived from Sabsawa village accompanied by her two-year-old child, Awana Dalha.According to preliminary investigations and her statements during interrogation, her decision to surrender was heavily influenced by the death of her husband, who was the commander of the Mairam Buri enclave.
He was eliminated in a recent firefight with Nigerian troops.Kaltum confirmed that the insurgent group had disintegrated following the commander's neutralization, leaving fighters scattered and demoralized.
The incident was reported by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama via his X handle.Operation Hadin Kai, the military's counter-terrorism effort in the region, has intensified offensives in recent months.
These operations have led to the neutralization of several high-value commanders, arrests, recovery of arms and ammunition, and a growing number of surrenders from fighters and their family members.
The surrender highlights the impact of sustained military pressure on Boko Haram's operational structure and the increasing willingness of some associates to defect amid losses.
Authorities are expected to provide further support and rehabilitation options to Kaltum and her child under existing deradicalization programs.(Original report: Daily Post Nigeria, February 27, 2026)
