The United Kingdom and Germany have reaffirmed their strong commitment to supporting Nigeria's ongoing battle against terrorism and insurgency in the North East.On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Britain's Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Brigadier Tom Harper, and Germany's Defence Attaché, Colonel Boris Bovecamp, visited the Headquarters of the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State.
During the visit, Brigadier Harper praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their determined efforts in combating terrorism through Operation HADIN KAI. He emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between Nigeria and the UK—built on shared values such as democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human rights and confirmed the UK's dedication to continued assistance.
This includes expanded training programs delivered via the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT).Colonel Bovecamp echoed the sentiment, stating that his visit aimed to identify new opportunities for collaboration.
He highlighted potential focus areas such as capacity building for Nigerian forces and enhanced regional cooperation mechanisms to boost operational effectiveness and jointly defeat terrorist threats.The Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, welcomed the delegates and expressed appreciation for the valuable contributions from the UK and Germany.
He noted that previous training initiatives have significantly improved troops' skills and ability to address evolving security threats. Looking ahead, he outlined priorities for future cooperation, including technical expertise, equipment provision, and logistical support—areas that would further strengthen the mutual benefits of these international partnerships.
