Troops stationed at the 9th Mile axis in Enugu State have successfully rescued five kidnapped victims after swiftly repelling an armed attack on commuters by suspected criminals.
Security sources reported that the incident took place around 6:55 p.m. on February 20, 2026, when assailants ambushed travellers heading toward Anambra State.
Upon receiving a distress call, the troops moved rapidly to the scene and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
The criminals were forced to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bush.During the operation, the five kidnapped individuals were freed unharmed, and the vehicle they were travelling in was recovered intact.
The troops expended 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition in the encounter.
In response to the incident, security authorities have intensified patrols along the route to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and prevent further attacks on commuters.
The situation is now fully under control, with ongoing surveillance and domination patrols in the area to maintain peace and secure the corridor.
