Tinubu Meets Wike, Fubara, Rivers State Leaders in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu convened a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other prominent political figures from Rivers State, amid ongoing efforts to resolve the protracted political crisis in the oil-rich state.

The meeting, which took place on Sunday night and was reported across major Nigerian media outlets on February 9, 2026, is seen as the latest intervention by the President to de-escalate tensions between Wike and his successor, Fubara.

Sources close to the Villa indicated that the discussions focused on fostering reconciliation and ensuring stability in Rivers State, though official details of the talks remain limited.

Reports highlighted that following the closed-door session, Governor Fubara reportedly accompanied Wike to the minister's residence in Guzape, Abuja.

The Rivers political rift has been marked by months of acrimony, including past impeachment threats, legal battles, and earlier presidential interventions, such as the December 2023 peace accord and a subsequent six-month state of emergency declaration.

This recent engagement appears aimed at preventing escalation ahead of future electoral cycles, including the critical 2027 polls where Rivers State's support remains vital.

While no formal statement has been issued by the Presidency or the parties involved, the gathering has sparked cautious optimism among stakeholders that renewed dialogue could finally bring lasting peace to the state.
