President Bola Tinubu has been advised against dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
Arewa leader in the south, Alhaji Musa Saidu in a chat with the Vanguard said the president should not succumb to pressure to replace the Vice president , warning that if he does it could weaken his support base in the north.
“If removing Vice President Kashim Shetima will bring problems for Mr President he should retain him.
“Dropping Shetima may not be a good political move for Mr President. This is my candid advice “, he said.
Saidu who is a staunch supporter of the president also urged him to go beyond promises of governors in the north and party leaders to build his support base ahead of the general elections.
He said some of the governors and party leaders promising the president massive votes in the north do not enjoy the political strength they boast of in the media.
“We are talking because we love Mr. President. We are on the street , we know the feelings of the people.
“What some highly placed members of the All Progressives Congress, APC , are telling him may not be true . They tell him one thing and tell us something different. Those Mr President think are in charge in the north are not truly on ground .
“The president should not rely on what the party leaders in the north are saying. The outcome of things may shock him if he does. I am very interested in the re-election of Mr President , this is why I am shouting.
“Mr President should look beyond party leaders for 2027.
“He should not stop relating with his original supporters across the country because some governors have decamped to the APC. He should keep in touch with the known supporters because some of the governors that came into the APC could spring surprises that may shock Mr President.
“The president should focus on those who worked for his first election. He should get accross to disgruntled members of the team that worked for him.
“I was at the Islamic conference in Katsina . The president should look beyond newspaper promises . I was also at the General Hassan Katsina memorial foundation / conference in Kaduna . I know what I heard from some northern leaders at the events.
” He should remember that during Jonathan’s election some of his party leaders allegedly worked against him “, he said.
Saidu said some of the coordinators and ambassadors that have been appointed to boost the president’s reelection in their areas may not be able to deliver.
” We remember how former governor Peter Obi swept votes in areas Mr President didn’t imagine at the last election”, he said.
He further called on political appointees from the north in the federal government to be building the president in their various states.
He also lauded the emergence of Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, former governor of Katsina state, as the Chairman of the APC ‘s 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee.
