Rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has taken a swipe at the Senate over the Electoral Act amendment.
In a statement posted on her verified X handle on Tuesday,
Yesufu said the Senate ended up insulting Nigeria.
The co-convener of BringBackOurGirls Movement was reacting
to the Senate’s rejection of the e-transmission of election results, which has
stirred up controversy in different quarters of Nigeria.
The public outrage had led to “Occupy the National Assembly”
protest by Nigerian youths and prominent politicians like Peter Obi and former
Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.
The Senate on Tuesday amended
Section 60 of the Electoral Act to allow presiding officers at polling units to
electronically and manually transmit election results to the Independent
National Electoral Commission Results Viewing Portal, INEC-IREV.
Reacting, Yesufu said, “The Nigerian Senate has insulted the
sensibilities of Nigerians!
“They have shown they are not deserving of the trust
Nigerians have given them to represent the people.”
