Saraki Fires Back at Sule's APC Pitch: 'You'll Go Home with Those Tinubu Caps'

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has rebuffed Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule's attempt to recruit him and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), turning the political overture into a pointed exchange at a book launch event in Yola today.

Sule, serving as Chairman of the occasion for the unveiling of Fintiri: The Man They Could Not Stop, had earlier gifted Fintiri a "Tinubu infinity cap" while jokingly suggesting the Adamawa governor already had "the APC in his DNA" and offering similar caps as a hint toward defection.

Saraki, who delivered remarks at the event, responded sharply: "Chairman of the occasion (Governor Sule) who came with some caps (Tinubu's caps), I'm sure you'll be going back home with those caps. Our governor and his party are performing, and that's why you're trying to recruit us."

Saraki's defense of PDP's local performance in Adamawa under Fintiri and dismissed the APC's recruitment efforts as driven by opposition success rather than its own appeal.

The banter unfolded amid broader speculation about defections to the APC, which has attracted several opposition figures recently citing President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. Fintiri, a PDP governor, has consistently denied any plans to switch parties, and Saraki, long associated with opposition politics reinforced his stance with the retort.

The event, which featured dignitaries including book reviewer Most Reverend Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, drew attention for the cross-party dynamics despite its celebratory focus on Fintiri's leadership story.

No immediate reply came from Sule or the APC on Saraki's comments, but the episode reflects ongoing political jostling in the North as parties gear up for future contests.
