Sam Amadi gives reasons Tinubu sacked IGP Egbetokun

Director, Abuja School Of Social And Political Thought, Dr. Sam Amadi, has said that the recently removed Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had a lot of controversies, adding that when people in such exalted offices become a burden, they are thrown away.

Amadi also noted that hiring decisions were made on the basis of reality.

He further mentioned that the outgone IGP got saddled with too many controversies and was operationally not fantastic as he did not provide much value.

“I think in making some changes, I suggest two things. One, maybe he wants to kind of increase the performance opportunity, performance of the security,” he said on Arise News.

“Again, the kind of presidents we have is that oftentimes hiring decisions are made on the basis of reality, maybe projections of the next election. And so it’s just like a football team you see coaches substitute players to get guys probably who deliver.

“So in a sense, it could be operational, and again, the insecurity, the level of criminality, and of course, the now former IG we presume, had a lot of controversies.

“What happens with the presidency is that when you are a burden and the value addition is not that much, whether politically or in terms of performance of the government, you’re likely going to be thrown away sooner or later.

“So presidents retain the capacity to reimagine and in doing that, those who don’t have strong political, maybe anchor, and who are not officially very useful get cut off,” he added.
