The Nigeria Police Force, working through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has repatriated $23,000 to a victim in the Cayman Islands who was defrauded in an international online romance scam.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers from INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched discreet, intelligence-led investigations.
These efforts resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the full recovery of the stolen $23,000.After completing all required documentation and coordinating with international partners, the recovered funds were formally handed over to representatives of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service via the British High Commission in Abuja for return to the victim.
The operation showsNigeria's growing collaboration with global law enforcement agencies to combat transnational cybercrimes, particularly romance scams that exploit victims emotionally and financially.
The suspect, Achufusi Obioma Ikenna, is expected to face charges in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations. Authorities emphasized that such recoveries highlight the effectiveness of international cooperation in tracing and retrieving proceeds of fraud.
