Osun Speaker, 24 Lawmakers Join Adeleke in Accord Party

In a major political realignment in Osun State, Speaker Adewale Egbedun and 24 other members of the House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.

The move, confirmed on February 27-28, 2026, also includes former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti.

The group has pledged full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election bid in the August 2026 governorship poll.Adeleke himself joined the Accord Party in December 2025 following PDP internal challenges.

With 26 total seats in the assembly (25 originally PDP-elected, 1 APC), this mass defection leaves the Accord Party dominating the legislature, with only one APC member remaining in opposition.

The lawmakers cited extensive consultations with constituents and stakeholders, emphasizing their goal to sustain good governance, transparency, and accelerated development under a more stable platform aligned with the governor.

This shift significantly strengthens Adeleke's position ahead of the upcoming election.
