No casualties as tanker overturns in Kano

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that no lives were lost after an LPG tanker overturned along Zaria Road in Kura Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on Sunday, at the Imawa area along the busy Zaria Road axis.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said the agency received a distress call about the accident through its control room.

According to the statement, the alert was raised by one of the Service’s staff members, Yusuf Musa Mazadu.

“Our control room received a distress call reporting an overturned LPG tanker at Imawa along Zaria Road in Kura Local Government Area,” the Fire Service said.

Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene to prevent any fire outbreak.

On arrival, the team found an LPG tanker with registration number KMC 39 XG, owned by Ultimate Gas Company, which had overturned by the roadside.

Fortunately, the tanker did not catch fire and no casualty was recorded.

“Our men quickly took all necessary safety measures and ensured that the tanker was safely towed away without any fire outbreak,” the statement added.

The Fire Service said the situation was successfully brought under control, preventing what could have turned into a major disaster given the flammable nature of the tanker’s contents.

Preliminary findings indicated that the accident was caused by the driver’s failure to take adequate rest during the journey.

“Initial investigation revealed that driver fatigue was a major factor that led to the accident,” the Service noted.

The Kano State Fire Service has again appealed to motorists, especially drivers transporting flammable materials, to drive responsibly and strictly observe traffic regulations.

“We urge drivers to ensure they are well-rested before embarking on long-distance journeys, as this is critical to protecting lives and property,” the statement said.
