The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to safeguard national maritime assets and advance Nigeria’s Blue Economy agenda.
NIMASA Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, at NAF Headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Mobereola emphasized that NIMASA will continue to leverage strategic air-maritime partnerships to consolidate gains under the Deep Blue Project the country’s flagship maritime security initiative and enhance overall domain awareness and protection of Nigeria’s vast Exclusive Economic Zone.
“This collaboration is crucial for supporting the Federal Government’s Blue Economy objectives, ensuring safer seas, stronger enforcement against illegal activities, and sustainable exploitation of our marine resources,” he stated.
The meeting highlighted ongoing synergies between the two agencies, including joint surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response capabilities to combat piracy, oil theft, illegal fishing, and other threats in Nigerian waters.
Air Marshal Aneke welcomed the partnership, pledging the NAF’s continued support through aerial reconnaissance, patrol, and logistical assistance to bolster maritime security operations.
The engagement underscores the government’s multi-agency approach to realizing the full potential of the Blue Economy, which is expected to drive economic diversification, job creation, and food security through responsible use of ocean resources.
