Nigeria, Israel Pledge Stronger Ties in Security, Health, Tech

Nigeria and Israel have renewed their commitment to deeper bilateral relations, focusing on security, healthcare, technology, and economic cooperation.

The reaffirmation came during a courtesy visit by Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, at Tafawa Balewa House in Abuja.

Discussions explored defence and intelligence sharing, economic partnerships, consular services, religious tourism, and broader bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized Nigeria's potential to benefit from Israel's advanced expertise in border security management, especially amid ongoing efforts against insurgency, terrorism, and cross-border threats.

She called for the operationalization of the Nigeria-Israel Joint Commission to provide a structured framework for these initiatives.

The minister welcomed Israel's pledge to donate around 60 fully equipped ambulances to bolster Nigeria's health sector, noting it as a key step toward fostering an "ambulance culture" nationwide.

Coordination is underway with Israel's Ministry of Health for the initial deliveries.

Ambassador Freeman highlighted Israel's interest in strengthening ties, describing the partnership as strategic given Nigeria's status as Africa's most populous nation.

He pointed to opportunities for sharing Israeli agricultural technologies to enhance food security and stressed the value of sustained high-level dialogues and visits.

The meeting follows earlier engagements, including a political dialogue in August 2025 between Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister.

This latest exchange shows growing momentum in Nigeria-Israel relations, with both sides aiming to convert commitments into concrete outcomes across priority sectors
