Massive Fire Engulfs Old International Terminal at Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport


A devastating fire outbreak has engulfed the old international terminal building at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.


The blaze erupted on Monday afternoon, with eyewitnesses reporting that thick smoke and flames became visible around 3:30 pm. The exact cause of the inferno is yet to be determined.The affected structure is currently under reconstruction by the Federal Government.


The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), alongside other emergency response agencies, has deployed personnel and equipment to the scene and is actively working to bring the raging fire under control.


The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident through its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire.


According to Agbebire, FAAN’s firefighting team is on site and making efforts to contain the blaze.He assured that: “No loss of life has been recorded. 


Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and there are no immediate reports of disruption to operations in other sections of the airport.


Emergency teams continue to focus on preventing the fire from spreading further, especially given the ongoing renovation activities at the terminal.More details are expected as rescue and containment operations progress.
