Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed retired Major-General Lukman Tokunbo Omoniyi as the state's Executive Adviser on Security Coordination, with immediate effect.

The appointment was announced on February 5, 2026, and communicated through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. In the appointment letter, Governor Makinde congratulated Major-General Omoniyi and charged him with strengthening the coordination of security operations across Oyo State to safeguard lives and property in every part of the state.

Major-General Omoniyi (rtd) is a seasoned former senior infantry officer of the Nigerian Army, with extensive experience in command, staff, and instructional roles.

He holds a Master of Science in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies and another in Strategic Studies, both from the University of Ibadan. He is currently pursuing a doctoral program in Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies at the same institution.

The move aligns with the Makinde administration's ongoing efforts to enhance security architecture in Oyo State, amid various measures to address crime and maintain peace.
