Supporters of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have called for a joint presidential ticket with Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party candidate and former Anambra governor, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking for various Kwankwaso support groups in Kano on Friday, Abba Sadauki Gwale said the proposal is driven by the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and governance failures under the current administration.
“As loyal followers of Senator Kwankwaso, we urge Nigerians to back an Obi–Kwankwaso alliance,” Gwale stated.
“We propose and fully support a joint presidential ticket, particularly with Peter Obi, in any party that can make it possible.”
The suggested partnership aims to merge Obi's strong southern support base with Kwankwaso’s powerful northern following, creating a formidable national coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“This alliance is about uniting to take power from the ruling party and deliver real progress,” Gwale added, stressing that political differences should not stand in the way of national recovery.
While the call has generated discussion in political and online circles, it remains a proposal from Kwankwaso loyalists and has not received official endorsement from either Kwankwaso or Obi.
The idea reflects growing interest in opposition coalitions for 2027, though questions remain about the practicality of such a ticket given previous political dynamics between the two leaders.
