Kogi Warns Churches: No Services After 4pm or Face Sanctions

The Kogi State Government has issued a firm warning to churches, vowing sanctions for any that violate security protocols by holding services or activities beyond 4:00 pm or operating in vulnerable, isolated areas without clearance.

State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, cited credible intelligence revealing a planned bandit attack on a church in Ijumu Local Government Area.

The targeted church had been conducting late-night activities, heightening its risk. While security measures have been deployed to thwart the plot, Fanwo stressed that the incident highlights the critical need for full compliance with the state's preventive directives.

Churches in remote or bushy locations must relocate to safer sites immediately to protect worshippers.

"Violators will face sanctions," Fanwo warned. "This is a safety measure, not an attack on religion. Deliberate breaches put lives at risk and create security vulnerabilities."

He instructed security agencies statewide to halt night services and vigils, prioritizing prevention over reaction, and urged cooperation from religious leaders and the public.

In a parallel security success, troops from the Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade overran a terrorist camp in Kogi's dense forests under Operation IGBO IDANU I.

The operation targeted a site linked to bandit leaders Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, known for attacks across the region.

Led by Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, the troops navigated challenging terrain and river obstacles, forcing the terrorists to flee.

They recovered a large cache, including over 2,000 rounds of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition and high-velocity grenades before destroying the camp to prevent reuse.

Kogi State Security Adviser Jerry Omodara praised the military's bravery and timeliness, saying the raid sends a clear message that terrorism has no safe haven in the state.

Patrols continue to block any regrouping efforts.
