Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has forged a significant partnership with the U.S.-based humanitarian organization Project C.U.R.E. to deliver medical equipment valued at over ₦8 billion to 10 general hospitals throughout his constituency.
The announcement came following an extensive needs assessment tour of facilities in Kagarko, Kachia, Sanga, Kafanchan, and Zonkwa.
Senator Katung stressed that outdated and insufficient equipment has long plagued these public hospitals, compromising care quality.
“For too long, our general hospitals have struggled with obsolete or inadequate equipment,” he said.
“This partnership marks a deliberate push to change that and deliver dependable, high-quality healthcare right at home for our people.”
The project initially focused on the five assessed hospitals as reference points. After discussions and a review, Project C.U.R.E. committed to supplying at least 11 containers of customized medical equipment to cover the full scope, including St. Louis Hospital in Zonkwa.
Katung highlighted the targeted nature of the aid: “We're not simply donating gear, we're matching it precisely to each hospital's needs. Functional equipment makes a real difference in patient outcomes.”
Framed as a five-year collaboration, the initiative prioritizes sustainability with built-in monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing support to create a reliable public healthcare framework.
Rose Polycarp, Project C.U.R.E.'s Team Lead, noted that each container is valued at roughly $500,000, totaling approximately $5.5 million (over ₦8 billion).
Shipments are expected to arrive within three to six months. She praised Senator Katung's role in enabling the partnership and reaffirmed the organization's dedication to lasting healthcare progress in the area.
Local government officials expressed strong support. Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, Chairman of Jema’a LGA, called the move “timely and transformative,” explaining it will empower committed health workers, reduce long-distance referrals, and relieve financial pressures on families.
Engr. Bege Joseph Gaiya, Chairman of Zangon Kataf LGA, commended the senator's approach: “This exemplifies genuine representation spotting community needs and delivering concrete solutions. Equipped hospitals will save lives and restore faith in public health services.”
Kaduna State House of Assembly members from Jema’a, Sanga, Zangon Kataf, and Jaba constituencies also endorsed the effort as a prime example of responsive, welfare-focused leadership.
Overall, the partnership is set to dramatically strengthen hospital infrastructure, elevate care standards, and provide a sustainable model for healthcare improvement across Southern Kaduna.
