Iran Strikes US Bases in Gulf, Hits UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain in Retaliation

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out missile and drone attacks on US military installations across the Gulf on February 28, 2026, in direct response to joint US-Israel strikes on Iranian targets earlier that day.

The IRGC confirmed targeting:US Navy Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama, Bahrain

Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar

Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait

Explosions were reported in Abu Dhabi, Manama, Doha, Kuwait City, and Riyadh, with smoke visible near the Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and reports of one shrapnel-related fatality in Abu Dhabi.

Regional air defenses intercepted several projectiles, Qatar downed at least two but some caused confirmed impacts.

The strikes follow US President Donald Trump's announcement of coordinated "major combat operations" with Israel aimed at destroying Iran's missile arsenal, blocking nuclear weapon development, and pressuring regime change.

Initial US-Israel attacks hit sites in Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, and elsewhere in Iran.Iran described its response as a "decisive defense," declaring all US and Israeli military assets in the region as legitimate targets.

Gulf states reacted quickly: Bahrain confirmed the strike on its hosted base, the UAE reported explosions and a death, Kuwait shut its airspace, and Qatar activated defenses with limited reported damage at Al Udeid.

The escalation has sparked fears of a wider regional war, disrupted recent diplomatic channels, and prompted immediate airspace closures and flight suspensions by major carriers in the area.

The situation remains highly volatile with no full casualty or damage reports from US facilities yet released, and ongoing alerts across the Gulf.
