The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has indicated that he is likely to formally join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing himself as currently in a political transition.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Sunday Politics programme on February 1, 2026, the former Chief of Defence Staff expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunities it has afforded him.
“I’ve not transitioned yet. I’m in transition. I think I’ll become a politician, a member of the APC, definitely,” Musa stated. When directly asked if he was now a member of the APC, he replied: “Not yet, but I think I’ll be. Definitely.
The APC has given me the platform to present myself right from when I was the CDS till date, so why not?”Musa emphasized his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu and the administration's agenda.
“Mr President needs all support, totally,” he said, adding that he would do whatever is necessary to ensure the president's success, including backing his potential second term.“
Whatever I can do to make sure he (President Tinubu) succeeds including moving forward to the second term, I will give him my very best,” the minister affirmed.
The comments come amid a wave of defections to the APC since President Tinubu assumed office in 2023, as well as recent high-profile political realignments in states like Kano.
As a retired military officer appointed first as Chief of Defence Staff and later as Minister of Defence under the Tinubu administration, Musa's potential formal entry into partisan politics would mark a significant shift from his long career in the armed forces.
