Health Workers Flee FCT Primary Health Centre Amid Rising Bandit Attacks

A primary health centre in the Kurmin-Daudu community, Kawu Ward of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been left deserted after health workers abandoned their posts due to persistent threats from banditry in the area.

Residents report that the facility, which once provided essential medical services to the rural community and surrounding villages, now lies in ruins. Community leader Musa Dangama explained that the workers were compelled to flee approximately six years ago when bandit activities intensified, with armed groups frequently moving between nearby villages and launching attacks.

"The situation became unbearable when bandits started attacking; that was when the personnel left," Dangama said. "They were moving from one village to another, and the fear forced everyone out."

Since the evacuation, the health centre has deteriorated significantly. Hoodlums have looted valuables from the building, and reptiles have reportedly taken over the abandoned structure, turning it into an uninhabitable space.

The facility's decay has left local residents without access to basic healthcare, forcing them to travel long distances or forgo treatment entirely. The abandonment highlights the broader impact of insecurity on public services in parts of the FCT, where banditry continues to disrupt daily life and essential infrastructure despite the territory's proximity to the nation's capital.

Authorities are yet to comment on plans to restore security to the area or reopen the health centre, leaving the community in urgent need of intervention to revive critical services.
