Governor Namadi Secures Federal Approval to Transform Dutse Airport into Cargo Hub

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has announced a major step forward in his administration's plan to reposition Dutse International Airport as a dedicated cargo hub. The state government has obtained official approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN commonly referred to as FAN in reports) to proceed with the installation of essential cargo facilities at the airport.

The announcement came during a routine inspection and calibration exercise at the airport on Sunday, carried out by a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). Governor Namadi used the occasion to emphasize the critical need to uphold international aviation best practices.

“Today marks an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State meet the highest standards of operation,” the governor stated while engaging with the NAMA team.

He praised the airport management for their commitment to safety, particularly through proactive calibration processes.

Responding to questions from journalists, Governor Namadi confirmed that productive discussions with FAAN had resulted in the green light to begin installing cargo infrastructure.

“We held talks with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and they have granted approval for us to start installing cargo facilities at the airport as we prepare for the full operational launch of the cargo hub,” he explained.

The governor expressed strong confidence that the airport would maintain top-tier standards and emerge as one of the leading facilities in the region.

The NAMA team leader outlined the purpose of their visit, stating that the mission focused on inspecting navigational aids to confirm full compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Following on-site evaluations, the team will further test equipment performance to certify safe and efficient operations.
