Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has extended his profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the substantial deployment of security personnel and logistical assistance to tackle insecurity in Benue State.
The governor made the remarks while receiving a fresh contingent of security operatives deployed to the state on Monday, February 16, 2026. He praised the President's timely intervention, describing it as crucial for restoring lasting peace, particularly in Benue, widely recognized as the nation's food basket.
In a statement issued by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, Governor Alia urged the new security team to discharge their duties with utmost dedication and professionalism to eliminate all forms of insecurity across the state.
He also commended the leadership of various security agencies operating in Benue for their ongoing efforts, highlighting the recent successful rescue of nine children abducted from Saint John Catholic Church in Ojije, Utonkon community, Ado Local Government Area, during a midnight prayer vigil.
The children, six girls and three boys—were safely recovered and provided medical care following the operation.Governor Alia called on the security heads to sustain this momentum until the state is completely free from threats of violence and kidnapping.
Addressing specific security needs, the governor directed the operatives to prioritize the protection of workers involved in constructing the Nyihemba-Abande road project. The road is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate easier movement, and enable faster responses to emergency distress calls in affected areas.
Emphasizing the importance of democratic processes, Governor Alia stressed that democracy forms the foundation of sustainable development. He instructed the security personnel to provide adequate protection to ensure the peaceful and hitch-free conduct of the upcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses across the state.
Reaffirming his administration's dedication to transparent and effective governance, the governor appealed to all citizens of Benue regardless of background—to rally behind his leadership as he works to steer the state away from underdevelopment and toward greater prosperity and security.
