Federal High Court Names Yahaya Yakubu Shafa Acting Chief Registrar

The Federal Judicial Service Commission has approved the appointment of Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, FCArb, as Acting Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court.

The decision was taken at the Commission’s 98th meeting on January 22, 2026. According to a statement released Tuesday by Catherine Oby Christopher, PhD, Director of Information for the Federal High Court, the appointment takes effect immediately from February 17, 2026.

Shafa succeeds Sulaiman Amida Hassan, who has been elevated to the Bench of the Federal High Court as a Judge.

The court highlighted that the smooth transition reflects its priority on administrative continuity, efficiency, and institutional stability.

A seasoned judicial administrator with over 18 years of experience in the justice sector, Shafa previously served as Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission, where he contributed to judicial policy, administration, and institutional development.

The Federal High Court expressed confidence that Shafa’s expertise in court management, legal practice, and reform will strengthen administrative operations and support faster, more effective delivery of justice nationwide.

Management and staff congratulated Justice Sulaiman Amida Hassan on his appointment to the Bench and thanked him for his service as Chief Registrar.

They also welcomed Mr. Yahaya Yakubu Shafa to his new role, wishing him a successful and impactful tenure.
