FCT Poll: APC, ADC Share Votes Equally at Karu Abuja Polling Unit

In a rare display of electoral deadlock amid widespread voter apathy, the chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) each secured exactly 12 votes at the Supreme Court Staff Quarters polling unit in Karu, Abuja, during Saturday's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

Presiding officer Martins Sani announced the results from the unit, where only 32 of the 749 registered voters cast ballots. Christopher Maikalangu of the APC and Paul Moses of the ADC tied at 12 votes apiece.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received four votes, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) two, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Action Democratic Party (ADP) one each.

The low turnout, less than 5% at this unit mirrored reports from across the FCT, with sparse participation attributed to voter disillusionment, movement restrictions, and other logistical hurdles in various area councils.

Despite the subdued atmosphere, security forces maintained a strong presence, and the process remained peaceful.

Dr. Olusola Odumosu, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command, briefed journalists after monitoring multiple polling units, describing the elections as smooth and orderly.

Odumosu praised the electorate's conduct and credited massive security deployments for deterring any disruptions.

He noted that officers from the NSCDC, police, and other agencies remained on standby to ensure calm during result collation and announcement.

He expressed no expectation of post-result violence but affirmed readiness to intervene if needed.

Odumosu framed the Area Council polls as crucial preparation for the 2027 general elections, allowing agencies to assess operations, review performance, and refine strategies for larger contests ahead.
