The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has begun the trial of 11 men accused of murdering Arise News journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
The defendants face charges connected to the killing of the journalist, an incident that raised serious concerns about the safety of media practitioners in Nigeria.
Proceedings commenced at the FCT High Court, with the prosecution set to present its evidence against the accused.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a reporter for Arise News, was killed in circumstances that drew strong condemnation from media bodies, journalists, and civil society organisations calling for justice and better protection for press workers.
