Ex-PDP Rep Candidate Naheem Balogun Declares 2027 Lagos Gov Bid on ADC Platform

Naheem Balogun, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate in Lagos, has officially declared his intention to run for governor of Lagos State in the 2027 general election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Balogun made the announcement on Tuesday during a well-attended ceremony at the De-Echo Event Centre in Egbeda, Alimosho Local Government Area.

The event drew ADC party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders from across the state. His decision to join the ADC comes as the party positions itself as the adopted platform for a growing opposition coalition seeking to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

The ADC has recently attracted several high-profile defectors and political figures disillusioned with the major parties.Balogun, who previously contested for a federal constituency seat on the PDP ticket, cited the need for genuine change, improved governance, and greater accountability in Lagos State as key motivations for his governorship ambition.

His entry into the race adds to the list of contenders emerging on the ADC platform and signals intensifying political realignment in Lagos ahead of the next governorship poll.

The state has been under APC control since 1999, and opposition parties have struggled to mount a serious challenge in recent cycles.

Balogun’s declaration is expected to energize supporters in Alimosho and other parts of Lagos, while further highlighting the ADC’s growing role in the evolving opposition strategy for 2027.
