Contestants from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have called for strict compliance with established guidelines in the ongoing selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland, pressing kingmakers to present a worthy candidate known as 'Omo Oye'.
Speaking on behalf of the aspirants at a forum of Jadiara blood descendants in Ijebu-Ode on Monday, Barrister Adebowale Olufeko himself a contender for the throne stressed that due process must be upheld to fill the vacant stool legitimately.
Olufeko emphasized that the meeting aimed to support, rather than disrupt, the efforts of stakeholders and the government. He reaffirmed the group's dedication to tradition, authority, transparency, fairness, and respect for customs.
He commended the Olori Ebi of the ruling houses especially Alhaji Fatai Owoyemi, Head of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and the kingmakers, urging them to faithfully follow procedures in nominating an deserving 'Omo Oye' for Ijebuland.
Olufeko also praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for facilitating the Fusengbuwa Ruling House's role in producing the next Awujale and for infrastructure advancements, such as the recent Abeokuta Road/New Road commissioning.
“This gathering recognizes us as key stakeholders,” Olufeko said. “We aim to review the process, share ideas, and present a united position with decorum, wisdom, and unity.”
He described the forum as a family matter not a political campaign bound by a higher duty to ensure peace, unity, and development in Ijebuland, where only one person will ultimately emerge as Awujale.
A communiqué capturing the candidates' collective position will be forwarded to the Ogun State Government and the Presidency.
Dubbed Candidates’ Voices, the forum highlighted the contenders' commitment to a peaceful, orderly succession aligned with tradition and law.
