Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide and digital communications strategist, has dismissed speculations of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso serving as running mate to Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, describing the idea as unrealistic given current political dynamics.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, February 23, 2026, Ahmad stated there is "simply no realistic scenario" where Kwankwaso, the former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, would accept to deputize for Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
He argued that Kwankwaso commands a long-standing political structure, a well-defined base, and a consistent movement built over years, making it improbable for him to play a subordinate role.
Ahmad suggested that if any alliance between the two figures were to materialize, the only viable arrangement would be the reverse Kwankwaso as presidential candidate with Obi as deputy.
"Those pushing for it need to wake up to the political realities on the ground," Ahmad wrote, emphasizing practical considerations over wishful thinking.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about potential opposition coalitions ahead of 2027, including talks of mergers or alliances involving figures like Obi, Kwankwaso, Atiku Abubakar, and others to challenge President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid.
Kwankwaso and Obi had explored collaboration before the 2023 polls, but no ticket materialized.
Recent comments from both camps and analysts have revived speculation, though Ahmad's post highlights the ego, structures, and regional balances that could complicate such pairings.
Ahmad's view aligns with earlier reports of Kwankwaso's insistence on top billing in any coalition, as he reportedly seeks either the presidential or vice-presidential slot for cooperation with other platforms.
No immediate response from Obi, Kwankwaso, or their camps has been reported on Ahmad's latest remarks.
