Adamu Atiku Abubakar, Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has decided not to join Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His name was notably missing from the list of 22 commissioners who accompanied the governor during today's announcement of the mass defection in Yola.
While Governor Fintiri and most of his cabinet crossed over to the APC, citing better alignment with the federal government for state development, Adamu Abubakar has chosen to remain in the PDP.
No official statement has been issued by the commissioner yet regarding his position. The development highlights divisions within the PDP in Adamawa, Atiku's political stronghold, even as Fintiri's switch strengthens the APC's grip on state governorships across Nigeria.
Social media reactions have been swift, with some viewing Adamu's stance as loyalty to his father's political brand, while others see it as a sign of potential opposition regrouping in the state ahead of 2027.
