Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), paid a courtesy visit to Kano State Governor, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Kano Governor’s Lodge.
The meeting centered on ways to solidify and expand the APC’s foothold in Kano State, especially following the governor’s recent move to the party.
In a statement, Senator Basiru described the visit as fruitful, writing: “I paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, H.E. Abba Yusuf, at the Kano Governor’s Lodge. The visit afforded us the opportunity to discuss how to further strengthen and unify our party, the APC, in Kano State and broaden the support base of the Governor.”
The engagement comes weeks after Governor Yusuf’s high-profile defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC in late January 2026.
The switch, announced on January 26, 2026, in Kano, included several state assembly members and federal lawmakers joining the ruling party. It was framed as a move to better align Kano with federal development programs and improve governance in the state.
The courtesy visit highlights the APC’s ongoing efforts to integrate new members, promote party cohesion, and build a stronger base in Kano ahead of future political activities.
