The trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, over an alleged N33.8 billion fraud case was stalled on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.Justice James Omotosho presided over the proceedings, where the defence team was expected to present a key witness as part of opening Mamman’s defence.
However, Femi Atteh, SAN, counsel to Mamman, informed the court that the witness could not be produced or subpoenaed because the individual was unavailable in the office.
Atteh requested more time from the court to secure the witness’s appearance.Following the submission, Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter to Thursday, February 26, 2026, for Mamman to proceed with opening his defence.
Mamman is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering and related offences involving the sum of N33.8 billion.
The funds in question were allegedly meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydroelectric Power projects.
Mamman has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case had earlier seen the prosecution close its case after presenting witnesses and evidence, with the court in December 2025 dismissing a no-case submission filed by the defence and ordering Mamman to enter his defence.
Further developments are expected at the next adjourned date.
