The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of voter intimidation and interference during Saturday's Area Council elections in Abuja.
In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described Wike's visits to multiple polling units under the guise of "monitoring" as unwarranted and potentially intimidating to voters and election officials.
The ADC stressed that Wike, as a partisan federal appointee and not a registered voter in the FCT, has no legitimate role in overseeing the electoral process."
His presence during active voting is therefore not only vexatious and meddlesome, but also risks intimidating voters and officials," the statement read.
The party also highlighted other alleged irregularities, including the imposition of a curfew that reportedly suppressed turnout, and claimed some security agents collaborated with APC representatives in certain areas.
The ADC further raised concerns over the inaccessibility of INEC's Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during results collation, calling it a "curious coincidence" and demanding immediate restoration and a transparent explanation from the commission.
The party urged its agents and supporters to stay calm, remain vigilant, and properly document any observed malpractices.
The allegations surfaced as collation of results from the February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council elections continues, with the APC currently leading in several councils amid reports of generally low voter turnout across the territory.
Neither Minister Wike, INEC, nor the APC has issued a detailed public response to the specific claims at this time.
