The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrival of about 100 United States military personnel and associated equipment at Bauchi Airfield.
This was disclosed in a statement by Major General Samaila
Uba, Director of Defence Information, on Monday.
He stated that the deployment followed a formal request by
the Federal Government of Nigeria and was part of a planned initiative to
support military training, technical assistance, and intelligence sharing.
He emphasized that “the US personnel are technical
specialists serving strictly in an advisory and training capacity. They are not
combat forces.”
“All training activities will be conducted under the
authority, direction, and control of the Nigerian Government and in close
coordination with the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
The DHQ explained that the collaboration aims to provide
Nigeria with specialized technical capabilities to improve its ability to deter
terrorist threats and enhance the protection of vulnerable communities across
the country.
Uba added that Nigerian troops and the visiting U.S.
advisers will begin a series of joint training and intelligence focused
cooperation initiatives aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness.
Reiterating the military’s commitment to national security,
the DHQ assured Nigerians that it will maintain “continued transparency and the
provision of clear, accurate, and timely information regarding the military
cooperation efforts.”
