Zamfara Approves N3.6b to Upgrade, Re-Equip State AM Radio Station

The Zamfara State Executive Council has approved the contract for the comprehensive upgrade of the state-owned AM radio station, aimed at modernizing its operations and expanding its reach across the state.

The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Ibrahim Dantawasa, following the council meeting chaired by Governor Dauda Lawal.

Dantawasa explained that the project involves the supply and installation of state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment and has been awarded to ECALPEMOS Technologies, a company recognized for its proven track record and expertise in broadcast technology solutions.

According to the commissioner, the upgrade is expected to be completed within 90 days. During this period, the contractor will deliver and install advanced equipment designed to significantly improve the station’s operational efficiency, signal coverage, broadcast quality, and overall transmission reliability.

He emphasized that the revitalization of the AM radio station will play a vital role in bridging the information gap, especially in rural and hard-to-reach communities.

The enhanced platform is expected to deliver timely, accurate, and reliable news and information to a wider audience, while also serving as a powerful tool for disseminating government policies, promoting public enlightenment, and supporting socio-economic development initiatives across Zamfara State.

Governor Dauda Lawal, through the commissioner, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning the state’s media landscape as a key partner in governance, transparency, and effective citizen engagement.

He assured that all approved projects, including this media upgrade, will be implemented strictly in accordance with due process, transparency, and international best practices.

The approval comes amid the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen communication infrastructure and improve public access to information, even as security and other developmental challenges persist in the region.

This project is seen as a strategic step toward empowering the state-owned media to better serve the people and support the administration’s agenda for good governance and inclusive development.
