Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles goalkeeper, has taunted
Moroccan players and officials over their loss to Senegal in the final of the
2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Morocco lost the final 1-0 to Senegal on Sunday. Pape Gueye
scored an extra-time winner in a match that was loaded with drama.
Clips from the match showed Moroccan players and stadium
officials snatching towels meant to keep Edouard Mendy’s gloves dry under the
drizzle in Rabat. They took the towels and repeatedly threw them into the
crowd.
The actions of the Moroccans were similar to the treatment
they gave Nwabali during the AFCON semi-final match against Nigeria. The
Nigerian goalkeeper returned to his team’s bench a couple of times to get a new
towel after the ones he had were snatched away.
Following Morocco’s final loss, Nwabali took to his social
media pages and mocked the Moroccans to wipe their tears with the towels they
took from him.
“Make Una use all my towel Una carry wipe Una tears,” the
goalkeeper writes in pidgin English.
Nigeria defeated Egypt on Saturday on penalties to win AFCON
bronze for the ninth time. Nwabali saved Mohammed Salah and Omar Mamoush’s
kicks in the shootout to give the Eagles victory.
