Troops Repel Terrorist Attacks in Adamawa, Borno, Neutralise Scores of Insurgents

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully thwarted multiple coordinated terrorist assaults in Adamawa and Borno States, while inflicting heavy casualties on fleeing insurgents during follow-up operations.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant S. A. Atokolo, Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, the first attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, January 16, 2026, when terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, under Sector 4 of OPHK.

Alert troops immediately engaged the attackers, receiving timely reinforcement from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force.

The combined effort repelled the assault completely, forcing the terrorists to abandon their plan. No casualties were recorded among own troops, and no military equipment was lost or damaged.

Later the same day, terrorists launched a large-scale, multi-directional attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Borno State.

The assailants made an initial attempt to breach the defensive perimeter but were met with intense and sustained firepower from gallant troops, supported by the Air Component and other Nigerian Army aerial platforms.

After more than an hour of fierce fighting, the terrorists were decisively overpowered and compelled to withdraw in disarray.

During clearance and exploitation operations, troops recovered several terrorist weapons and ammunition, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally fabricated explosive devices, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

Precision airstrikes by Nigerian Air Force platforms further neutralised additional scores of the fleeing insurgents.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property in the North East and called on citizens to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to sustain the fight against terrorism.
