Tinubu Approves Recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards to Enhance Security in Plateau

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment and enlistment of 1,000 youths from Plateau State to serve as forest guards, in a targeted effort to strengthen security in rural and forested areas plagued by violence.

The announcement came from Vice President Kashim Shettima during a ceremony honoring Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shettima highlighted the initiative as part of broader federal security measures and a gesture of support following the governor's political realignment.

According to Shettima, the deployment of these forest guards aims to improve safety in vulnerable rural communities, particularly those impacted by longstanding violent conflicts between farmers and herders.

"The president has given the go-ahead for 1,000 youths to be employed as forest guards across Plateau," Shettima stated. "The dividends of democracy will begin to be felt within the next three weeks."

The vice president further urged Plateau residents to collaborate with the federal government's security programs, assuring that additional development initiatives would soon follow to benefit the state.

This Plateau-specific recruitment aligns with President Tinubu's ongoing national push to revitalize forest guarding efforts amid rising insecurity in forested regions nationwide.

Earlier in his administration, Tinubu approved the establishment of armed forest guards to reclaim forests from criminals, bandits, and terrorists, with implementation overseen by the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Environment.

The latest move in Plateau appears to prioritize local youth employment while addressing regional security challenges.
