Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his courageous economic reforms, describing them as essential steps to stabilize Nigeria’s economy and restore investor confidence.
Speaking during a media parley in his country home in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Sunday, January 25, 2026, the Deputy Speaker acknowledged that the reforms though challenging in the short term are necessary to reposition the economy, strengthen fiscal fundamentals, and attract both local and foreign investments.
Kalu urged the people of the South-East, particularly the Igbo community, to take full advantage of the opportunities created by the policies rather than viewing them through a lens of opposition.
He emphasized that governance should be seen as a collaborative effort, not a competition, and called for synergy between federal lawmakers and state governments to attract more federal intervention projects and accelerate development in Abia State and the broader South-East region.
The lawmaker also addressed his earlier public appeal to Abia State Governor Alex Otti to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying that the suggestion stemmed from a genuine desire to foster stronger federal-state cooperation for the rapid development of Abia.
Rt. Hon. Kalu concluded the session by advising journalists to prioritize factual reporting and broaden coverage to include positive developments in the economy beyond political narratives.
