Sowore Accuses APC of Blocking Opposition Campaigns with Costly Advertising Tricks

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other dominant political parties of systematically undermining opposition campaigns through coordinated destruction of materials and prohibitive pricing of advertising spaces.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore recounted experiences from the 2019 and 2023 election cycles, where a "coordinated brigade" in Lagos was allegedly deployed to swiftly tear down opposition campaign posters.

Despite significant investment in high-quality printed materials, these efforts were repeatedly thwarted almost immediately after placement. In response, Sowore's team adapted by shifting to graffiti-based campaigning across various parts of Lagos.

He noted that at least one such graffiti piece from that period has endured to the present day in the Maryland–Mende area of the city, serving as a lasting symbol of resistance.Sowore claimed that ruling parties have since intensified suppression efforts by "weaponising" so-called signage agencies.

These entities, he alleged, now set outdoor advertising rates far beyond the financial reach of opposition challengers, effectively limiting their public visibility during election periods.

The activist, who is the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and founder of the African Action Congress (AAC), declared that his side has "raised our game" in response to these challenges. He teased forthcoming developments.

Sowore's disclosure comes amid ongoing political tensions in Nigeria, as preparations intensify for future electoral cycles.
