Shettima Returns to Abuja After Successful Diplomatic, Mission to Guinea, Davos

Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on Saturday morning following a week-long diplomatic and economic engagement in Guinea-Conakry and Switzerland, where he represented President Bola Tinubu at key international events.

The Vice President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after attending the inauguration of Guinea’s transitional President, Brigadier General Mamadi Doumbouya, and leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

A major highlight of the trip was the official commissioning of Nigeria House Davos, the country’s first-ever permanent sovereign pavilion on the iconic Davos Promenade.

The facility is designed as a year-round investment and promotion hub showcasing Nigeria’s opportunities in solid minerals, agriculture, and the digital economy.

During a high-level WEF session titled “When Food Becomes Security,” Vice President Shettima presented Nigeria’s newly developed national food security framework.

He described agriculture as a strategic pillar of both national security and macroeconomic stability, emphasizing the need to treat food production with the urgency reserved for defence and economic fundamentals.

The Vice President also participated in the Accra Reset Initiative, a platform advocating for African industrialisation driven by domestic capital, local value chains, and reduced dependence on foreign aid.

On the economic front, Shettima engaged investors and global leaders, assuring them of Nigeria’s improving macroeconomic outlook. He highlighted projections of 4.4 per cent GDP growth for 2026 and a steady decline in inflation, which currently stands at 12.94 per cent, as evidence of ongoing stabilisation efforts under the Tinubu administration.

The engagements are seen as part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to attract foreign direct investment, strengthen bilateral ties, and position the country as a key player in global discussions on food security, industrialisation, and sustainable economic growth.

No immediate statements were issued from the Presidency or the Vice President’s office following his arrival, but sources close to the delegation described the mission as highly productive in advancing Nigeria’s international economic diplomacy.
