Sanusi Returns to Classroom, Resumes lectures at Northwest Uni as law student

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, has officially begun attending undergraduate lectures at Northwest University, Kano, as a 200-level student in the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Common Law and Sharia.

The emir joined his classmates for classes on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, dressed in his signature black flowing apparel and white turban. He sat quietly at the back of the lecture hall on a three-seater bench, actively participating by following the session, signing the attendance register, and engaging like any other student.

This marks the start of his formal academic journey in the Faculty of Law at the state-owned institution, following a special admission granted last week in recognition of his extensive background in governance, economics, public service, and his existing credentials including a PhD and his tenure as former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The university's decision to admit him directly into Level 200 for the 2024/2025 academic session highlights his distinguished profile as a scholar and reform advocate.

His presence on campus has drawn significant attention, delighting fellow students and sparking widespread admiration online for exemplifying the pursuit of knowledge at any stage of life.

Photos from the day capture the royal figure humbly blending into the classroom environment, serving as a powerful reminder that education remains a lifelong endeavor—even for emirs.
