Rotimi Oyedepo, the newly appointed director of public prosecutions (DPP) in the federal ministry of justice, has assumed duty.
In December 2025, President Bola Tinubu approved the
appointment of Oyedepo, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as DPP.
Oyedepo was transferred from the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream federal civil service.
He succeeded Abubakar Babadoko, who retired on December 31,
2025, after completing the mandatory eight-year tenure as director.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oyedepo promised to strengthen
Nigeria’s public prosecution system through professionalism, independence, and
strict adherence to the rule of law.
The senior advocate appreciated the president and Lateef
Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation, for finding him worthy of the
appointment.
He added that his administration’s priorities include
prosecutorial independence, professionalism, and strict compliance with the
constitution and rule of law.
He said the credibility of the justice system depends
largely on the integrity of prosecutorial decisions.
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming goodwill,
prayers, and congratulatory messages following my appointment as director of
public prosecutions of the federation,” he said.
“This appointment is a solemn call to service.
“Prosecutorial decisions under my leadership will be guided
solely by law, evidence, and the public interest, anchored on fairness,
diligence, and integrity.
“I look forward to constructive engagement and cooperation
as we work together to build a credible, formidable, and future-ready public
prosecution system for our nation.”
