Rivers PDP Suspends Caretaker Chairman Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its caretaker committee Chairman, Dr Robinson Nname-Ewor, citing actions detrimental to the party's unity and interests.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the state caretaker committee on Friday, January 3, 2026. Members accused Nname-Ewor of aligning with an expelled party member and issuing public statements that contradicted the official position of the PDP leadership in the state.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the committee's Secretary, Ogbam Ojima, who has been appointed Acting Chairman, stated that Nname-Ewor's conduct amounted to a "voluntary resignation" even before the formal suspension.

Ojima emphasised that the committee fully disassociated itself from all statements attributed to the former chairman, stressing that they did not represent the collective stance of the Rivers PDP.

The caretaker committee reaffirmed its loyalty to the faction recognising Dr Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman and reiterated that Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike remains expelled from the party, with no authority to interfere in its affairs.

"It is noteworthy to remind the public that Wike has already been expelled from our party and, as such, has no right to interfere in the affairs of the PDP," Ojima said.
