Rivers APC Faction Praises Tinubu for Naming Fubara State Party Leader

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reaffirming Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in the state.

The endorsement, conveyed through statements from the presidency and key presidential aides, aligns with the APC's established principle that sitting governors serve as the automatic leaders of the party at the state level.

The Emeka Beke-led faction of the Rivers APC described the presidential position as a welcome development that vindicates their stance amid prolonged internal disputes and leadership tussles within the state chapter.

They expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for upholding party conventions and supporting the governor's role.

This affirmation comes against the backdrop of Governor Fubara's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in December 2025, where he cited his desire to align with and support President Tinubu's administration.

Since joining the APC, Fubara has been positioned as the party's flagbearer in the state, with some reports indicating endorsements for his potential second term in 2027.

The development has sparked reactions, including from presidential aide Daniel Bwala, who reportedly emphasized that Governor Fubara is the APC leader in Rivers State, while stating that former Governor Nyesom Wike holds no formal standing in the party structure there.

The presidency has also cautioned against actions that could destabilize state interests.

The Rivers APC faction hailed the move as a step toward unity and direction for the party in the oil-rich state, urging stakeholders to rally behind the governor's leadership to strengthen the APC's position ahead of future elections.
